I made it to 46! Hoping to be around for a few more! We did the usual, cake and pizza with family.

Shelby really loved the candles she found for the cake too. They threw tiny sparks.

Back Bay Brewing - 15 Oct 2015

Stopped by Back Bay Brewing Co. to grab Jasper a pour after the Old Beach Farmers Market. Funny thing is he didn't drink it so I had to. We also met a kid who just turned 21, he was down from Hampden-Sydney College with his buddies. His parents were taking all the boys out on a local brewery tour. I thought that was a pretty nice idea. Oh, also got to chat briefly with Travis about his trip to Canada and California and Josh Malbon dropped in waiting or his order from Gringo's next door.

Yesterday was Shelby's "bertday"! Normally we have family over for cake and pizza, like we do every year for our birthdays. This year though we had cake night the day before her actual birthday and had dinner at Terrapin last night. This month's Merroir Terroir ended up being on her birthday, Merroir Terroir is Terrapin's seasonal wine and oyster pairing they hold once a month--I'll write more about that later. I just wanted to give a little shout out to the best wife and buddy a guy could have. Happy Birthday Shelby! XXXOOO

O'Connor Brewing Turns Four

Norfolk's O'Connor Brewing Company turned 4 years old today -- St. Patrick's Day! I remember hearing about the brewery first coming around through rumor and then opening. It's come a long way since then and it's only getting better: it'll be moving to a new location soon, they've been putting out great seasonals, and the crew is getting bigger.

Shelby and I didn't go out tonight but I did get a early St. Patrick's Day pull this past Saturday when the brewery celebrated its anniversary and three wins from the Dublin Craft Beer Cup. Turn-out was great and delicious food was being served by one of the newer food trucks in the area -- Karnage Asada. I'll write a little more about them in a separate post but I will say they're worth stopping for if you see them parked somewhere. I had a "full rack" of tacos and Kapow Kimchos, kimchi nachos. Seriously, it was good!

The weather was perfect. They had a couple of pouring station working on the inside and did a good job at keeping the glasses filled, growlers topped-off, and flights flying. Live music was being played by a three piece outfit and there was even some dancing going on. People were playing cornhole outside next to picnic tables occupied by merry-makers.

P.S. - You probably know this already, but in case you don't...the oak tree you see on the sign is part of the ancient, Irish crest of the O'Connor clan.

I had to give a shout out to my lovely wife, Shelby, today. It's her birthday! It's crazy to think that the two of us have been together since we were both 16; she is infinitely patient with me.

She gets her Cold Stone Creamery Chocolate Chipper ice cream cake every year. This year they decided to mix it up for us by using green icing for the lettering--even though I asked for white--but it tastes the same so no harm, no foul. (Not really, use white next time!)

Every so often my birthday falls on Thanksgiving--that's what happened this year! Shelby always makes my cake and I like them simple: yellow cake with milk chocolate frosting.

I want the same thing every year. I think it might have to do with those Betty Crocker box mixes I used to see when I was a kid. They had this great looking yellow cakes with a thick chocolate frosting, so good.

This year Shelby made my cake and frosting from scratch and it was amazing! She baked it the day before because--as I mentioned earlier--my birthday fell on Thanksgiving this year. The kitchen was going to be locked up all day. After we had our Thanksgiving dinner she brought the cake out and there were 42 candles on it. So weird when I think about it...anyways, I blew them all out in one shot. Pretty good for an old guy.

Thanks for the cake baby, it was great :)

Milo's 1st Birthday

Recently we were invited to our friends’ son’s 1st Birthday Party. Ken’s family is Filipino and that means tons of food! It was all so good that I told Ken if they don’t quit feeding me like this I’ll never leave. He said welcome to the family.
